Telefónica Móviles manages all the Telefónica Group’s
cellular assets worldwide. It is one of the world’s largest mobile telephony
operators and the leader in the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking markets.
It has operations on three continents and a managed customer base of 72 million
(at the end of the third quarter of 2004) including those of BellSouth’s
operators in Latin America, whose acquisition was agreed in March this year.
In 2003, Telefónica Móviles reported net income of €1,607.9
million and operating revenues of €10,070 million (10% higher than in
2002). EBITDA (gross operating profit) advanced 19.5% to €4,463 million.
Strong growth in operating revenues and EBITDA enabled the company to generate
consolidated free cash flow in the year of €2,184 million, an increase
of 19% from 2002.
